Basically: we get a LOT of unwanted cool breezes, and I caught a mouse in a trap not too long ago. This house was built in 1920 in an area near a creek in Kentucky where we have extremely humid and hot summers followed by very cold and humid winters. (side note: I realize the spongy/slanted floors probably indicate a bigger problem - someone came to reinforce the foundation under our house to solve this problem, BUT they couldn't access some of the bent boards by the underneath because the joists are in the way, so we'll have to get someone from upstairs and fix them eventually)

Basically, I'm looking to fill in the gaps between baseboards and floors. Looks like a previous owner used it between the boards, but with our extreme temperatures every year it comes out all over the place and I end up sucking it up or it sticking to my feet when I walk around. I don't want to use spray foam because of the carcinogens, but other suggestions, techniques, etc. would be much appreciated.

Does anyone have any ideas for filling a gap between an old baseboard and a new wall? The gap is 5 inches long and just under 1 inch wide at the widest part. The 100+ year old plinth is 10 inches tall, a solid piece of wood and is level.
