Ever since we bought our old farmhouse, I've been a little worried about how difficult it would be to decorate a living room with knotty pine walls. Although there are many articles on how to paint knotty pine walls, we thought it was worth seeing what the finished space looked like, as we could always paint the walls later if we decided. that we couldn't live with them. So far so good - I'm pretty happy with how our vintage knotty pine walls look in the living room at this point. I haven't hung any pictures on the walls yet, but as you can see from the living room photo above, the space actually doesn't have a dark, depressing feel at all. My daughter enjoyed playing it and I am considering lessons for both of us. Since we live in the original 1940s farmhouse, which is larger than the ranch house next door, the rooms here are all oversized. I would like something more like a traditional farmhouse style. When we chose the new flooring for these downstairs rooms, we opted for a dark bamboo that echoes the darker tones of the knotty pine. I like that the floor has little color variation, which really helped tone down the hustle and bustle of the room, making the overall effect somewhat soothing, at least in my humble opinion. A lot of work went into preparing the floors as there had been a lot of settling in the old house. The floor has the old oak floors completely restored, so we have kept this feature in half of the house. I am really happy with the look of the new wooden floors in combination with the old knotty pine walls.

I read this forum from time to time but I don't post much... We have a small 4 season log home up north and we will be replacing the old vinyl flooring in 2 bathrooms with vinyl plank . ALL of the walls in the house are knotty pine planks - in shades of yellow...and I'm struggling with what "look" to choose for the floors. Just curious if anyone has any suggestions? If you look at older homes, it was quickly discovered that indoor plumbing was not a good idea around the hardwood floor.
