I have been installing laminate flooring since 2001 and have had a chance to see many brands. I've searched the internet for honest reviews of laminate flooring, all I seem to find are just very general descriptions saying they're all the same. When I worked for a retail store, I realized that I sometimes installed, say, Really Junky Laminate. I love installing good quality laminate flooring, it makes me look good. Maybe what I see and what my client sees may be different, although you still want a well-made floor so it will still look new 5 years from now. I can't say my laminate flooring reviews are the final word on any product. I've seen laminate floors that were just bad in terms of quality, but the owner thought that was great. Some people may not realize that laminate flooring can vary in quality and price to such a degree. There are many people who realize this and do the necessary research, so that they can find the best quality and the best price on laminate flooring. So I hope the laminate flooring reviews I've written here shed some light on the decision making that will help you save money and aggravation. What Are Ac Ratings When It Comes To Choosing Laminate Flooring?
The AC rating establishes the durability of a certain laminate product, helping you understand the suitability for the intended application (i.e. the AC rating is then a reliable and unbiased indicator of the durability of the laminate flooring). laminate flooring, as these tests are carried out by a third party and they cover all the different ways a laminate can wear.Based on the test results, a laminate is designated with an abrasion class ranging from AC1 to AC5. We generally recommend installing this product preferably in guest bedrooms and dining rooms that are used every once in a while,AC2 rated laminate is suitable for areas with moderate foot traffic, so we do not recommend installing this flooring in high traffic areas such as hallways or living rooms. However, AC2 rated laminate floors are ideal for family rooms and bedrooms that receive some traffic. AC3 rated laminate flooring represents the highest rating for homeowners, so it is intended for use in all domestic areas with heavy foot traffic. AC4 rated laminate is suitable for moderate traffic commercial spaces such as shops, offices, lounges and cafes. As mentioned above, laminate floors rated AC1, AC2 and AC3 are intended for domestic use only, while laminate floors rated AC4 and AC5 are strictly suitable for commercial application. For example, AC2 rated laminate is 60% more wear resistant than AC1 rated laminate. Laminate rated AC4 is more wear resistant than AC3 by 60%, than AC2 by 120% and than AC1 by 180%. With higher AC characteristics, you will therefore benefit from a longer lifespan for your laminate floor. For residential use, AC3 rated laminate flooring is the ideal choice thanks to its excellent durability, cost effectiveness and versatility. You may however ask yourself "why not invest in an AC4 or even AC5 rated laminate that can last a lifetime in my home?" Well, the first reason these aren't worth the investment for residential purposes is that AC5 and to a lesser extent AC4 have textures that are too rough for home use. This is because the wear layer (which is the top layer) of AC5 and AC4 rated laminate floors is usually a high pressure laminate (HPL), which makes these laminate floors anything but pleasant underfoot. In conclusion, when making a purchasing decision for residential laminate flooring, keep in mind that AC3 rated laminate is the highest level designated for domestic use, making it durable enough for more than 95% of homes.
